Anthropic CEO calls for slowing down of AI development, OpenAI and Musk agree

[Silicon Valley Current Affairs] On the 12th, Dario Amodei, CEO of American artificial intelligence (AI) company Anthropic, stated on his blog, ``We must slow down the pace of improvement in the capabilities of AI models,'' calling for a slowdown in development. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and American businessman Elon Musk also agreed with this assertion.

Amodei cited the increasing ability of AI to improve itself and the issue that occurred in July when Open AI's autonomous AI agent unintentionally attacked other companies. Regarding the latter, he pointed out that if AI had higher capabilities, it could have caused catastrophic damage. He warned that in six to 12 months, AI "will gain the ability to take over the entire Internet."

On top of that, he recommends slowing down the development of advanced AI models so that countermeasures can catch up. He called for the establishment of a permanent independent evaluator for AI development companies, the government's legal regulations, and the creation of a framework to slow down the growth involving authoritarian countries such as China.

"I agree with Dalio that we need to slow down the pace of advanced models," Altman said on X (formerly Twitter) on the 12th. It has been announced that an independent evaluator will be appointed for open AI as well. Musk also posted on X, saying, "Dario is right."
