Ceuta lives a night of fires, fights and attacks after the massive arrival of migrants

Ceuta has experienced a new day of tension, marked by fires, fights and attacks between Sunday night and this Monday. The city recorded the worst night of vandalism since the massive entry of migrants on July 30, with several vehicles and containers set on fire, in addition to police interventions due to clashes at different points.

According to police sources and the Fire Extinction Service, during the early hours of the morning there were "intentional burnings" of vehicles and containers in different areas of Ceuta. Firefighters had to intervene to put out the flames of three cars parked in Polígono, Hadú and Cría Caballar. Up to three containers also burned in other parts of the city, although at the moment the perpetrator of these events is unknown.

The fires also spread to mountain areas, where several belongings were burned in illegal migrant settlements, especially in Arroyo de las Bombas, in the Príncipe neighborhood. In parallel, the Police had to intervene in several fights between migrants on the Trampolín beach and in the vicinity of the Polígono. This last confrontation occurred before the fire of one of the vehicles.

The Unified Association of Civil Guards (AUGC) has reported that it was a "complicated" early morning, during which an agent was hit in the shoulder by a stone when he went to serve in one of the fires. The association has warned that these events are not "isolated events" and has called for "urgently" reinforcing security and emergency devices in the city.

The tension continued this Monday with an attack on a Muslim from Ceuta, whom two neighbors confused with a Moroccan who had entered the city irregularly. According to El Faro de Ceuta, the attackers hit him in the face after accusing him of being one of the migrants who arrived in July. The victim even showed them his ID to prove that he had Spanish nationality, at which point they both fled before the Police intervened.

Also this Monday, the Police detained a migrant in the surroundings of the Port of Ceuta after starting a chase to arrest him, according to the same media. The man has been arrested for a crime of resistance.
