Queen Margaret of Denmark admitted for bruising and dehydration

Queen Margaret of Denmark, 86, was admitted this Sunday to the Kingdom Hospital of Copenhagen due to an illness, according to the Danish Royal House. "A new hematoma has been confirmed in the hip region as well as mild dehydration. Both must be treated," stated in a statement sent by this institution. The Royal House highlighted that the queen is “in good spirits and well, considering the circumstances” and that she will be admitted next week for treatment and observation. His admission will prevent him from traveling to Oslo this Wednesday to attend the funeral of King Harald V of Norway, who died nine days ago at the age of 89.

Danish representation at the funeral will now be reduced to Kings Frederick X and Mary, Princess Benedicta, Margaret's sister, and Crown Prince Christian. Margarita suffered several hospital admissions in May due to coronary problems, although she reappeared in public in June and resumed her official agenda.

The queen was admitted to the Kingdom Hospital on May 14 for angina pectoris, which required angioplasty, and she remained there for five days. Six days later she had to be hospitalized again when a thrombus was detected in the hip area, the result of a previous fall, until she was discharged on May 29.

Margarita, who abdicated to her son Federico in January 2024, maintains the title of queen and continues to participate in official events. His unexpected announcement that he would step down from the throne after 52 years came during his traditional end-of-year speech. The queen, who had repeatedly reiterated that her job was “for life”, then appealed to her age, the problems derived from a complicated back operation and the need to make way for the new generation to justify her retirement.
