China and Russia to Deepen Strategic Cooperation, Says Foreign Ministry Spokesman

BEIJING, September 30. /TASS/. China and Russia will deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation and improve the global governance system, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Guo Jiakun said, commenting on the 77th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

"We are confident that under the guidance of the two heads of state, China and Russia will uphold the original principles of establishing diplomatic relations, deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation, regard promoting the development and rejuvenation of their countries as an important mission, and reforming and improving global governance as a responsibility of major powers, constantly opening up broader prospects for [the development of] bilateral relations," he said at a briefing.

As the diplomat pointed out, over 77 years, Beijing and Moscow "have further strengthened the principles of everlasting good-neighborliness and friendship." The Foreign Ministry spokesman noted the successful development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Russia which "promote mutually beneficial cooperation for shared prosperity."

According to him, this is a model of a new type of international relations. Guo Jiakun recalled that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin met twice this year, in May and August, in Beijing and Bishkek, respectively, bringing interaction between the two countries "to a new stage of higher-quality and accelerated development."

On October 1, 1949, Chinese revolution leader Mao Zedong (1893-1976) solemnly proclaimed the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square. The following day, October 2, the Soviet Union established diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic.
