Butlan CHP Spokesperson Müslim Sarı shared figures regarding the resignations in CHP municipalities.
Sarı stated that the number of CHP Municipal Council Members, which was 6 thousand 517 in March 2024, decreased to 2 thousand 453, and 790 thousand members resigned from CHP.
Sarı said:
"As of today, out of 416 mayors, the number of municipalities remaining with the Republican People's Party is 122. 7 of them are metropolitan municipalities, 1 is a provincial municipality, 101 are district municipalities, and 13 are town municipalities. The number of mayors who left the Republican People's Party and switched to AKP is 38. Of these 38 municipalities, 2 are metropolitan municipalities, 1 is a provincial municipality, 32 are district municipalities, All 3 of them are town municipalities.
According to the data we have, the number of mayors who resigned and joined the NEW Party is 173. We had 6 thousand 517 elected municipal council members. As of today, there are 2 thousand 453 municipal council members in the Republican People's Party. Some of them resigned and remained independent, some resigned and joined the AKP, and some resigned and joined the NEW Party. But their numbers vary greatly."
"WE CANNOT ACCEPT AN ELECTION WHICH IS DELAYED IN 2028 AS AN EARLY ELECTION"
Asked for his assessment of the early election discussions, Sarı stated that he expects an election in 2027 and said, "I think that Türkiye will hold an election somewhere in 2027, and that this election will not be delayed until 2028. We do not accept any election that extends into 2028 as an early election. Therefore, it is not possible for us to support an election that will be held very shortly before the election by saying 'This is also an early election'. Interpreting the Constitution, he said, 'Even the Sunday a week before the elections is early, as long as a decision is made. "To say 'it is an election' would be to deceive the citizens. We will never accept this," he said.
Stating that 790 thousand members have resigned from the CHP so far and some of them are not members of another party, Sarı stated that the evaluation of who will be appointed as the Istanbul Provincial Chairman will be discussed at the Central Executive Board meeting to be held tomorrow.
ANSWER TO ZEYNEL EMRE
Drawing attention to the numerical balance in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council, Sarı called on the YENİ Party to act responsibly:
"In Istanbul, the number of municipal council members of the Republican People's Party and the number of municipal council members of the AKP and MHP, that is, the People's Alliance, who can act together have become very close to each other. If I remember correctly, there is a situation of 136 to 153. There is a difference of about 17. Of course, we also have friends in this number who are members of the Republican People's Party but are DEM members due to the City Consensus, that is, they are doing politics there. Now we hear that they are different. Some hooks are being thrown at our metropolitan municipal council members in Istanbul. We saw the latest example in Kartal.
Therefore, if a possible situation arises, if the risk you have just pointed out arises, we need to stand together and act together with the Republican People's Party, without division, in an election to be held in Istanbul. We need to create the basis for my friends who are in the corporate identity of the Republican People's Party to act together, even though their minds and souls are in another political party. Now we must not allow anyone to sabotage this ground.
We tried to do this in Üsküdar. We had cooperation. Our cooperation was successful, but the result was not what we wanted. Now we are doing the same thing in the Islands, and we want to do it from now on. But our friends, that is, the friends who left us, do not act responsibly enough. We saw this in Mr. Zeynel Emre's statement. We managed the whole process together with my counterpart in the Islands, Yaşar Tüzün. We talked on the phone and made decisions together. For example, we had our third-ranked municipal council member. Regarding the fact that our third-ranked municipal council member is a party member... We made one member resign because he is an arrested member. In order for this friend of ours to vote, a letter had to be written to the Electoral Board. Since this friend of ours is a CHP member, we had to write this. We organized here, we acted together, we wrote. Therefore, we took the same decision together to postpone the election. We made all the decisions together. While we were doing this, the NEW Party Spokesperson stood up and said, 'What cooperation, brother? 'Are we going to cooperate with Butlan?' "To say this is to sabotage this process."
