The Russian Ufa submarine launches Kalibr missiles into the Sea of Japan

The missiles targeted naval and coastal targets, according to what was announced by the fleet’s press service.

The press service explained that the 'Ufa' submarine, which operates on diesel and electricity, carried out during planned maneuvers the launch of cruise missiles from the 'Caliber-BL' system (designated for submarines) from the waters of the Sea of ​​Japan towards naval and coastal targets.

This training combat maneuver was preceded by the submarine crew secretly moving to the designated area.

The sources added that the first high-precision missile was able to successfully hit a surface target, which is a naval shield that simulates a warship belonging to a hypothetical enemy, at a launch distance of about 130 kilometers, while the second missile hit a coastal target at the “Siorkum” training site in the Khabarovsk region, where the target distance exceeded 1,000 kilometers.

The fleet noted that the safety of civilian navigation in the missile launch area was fully guaranteed and secured by ships, aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles of the Pacific Fleet.

It is noteworthy that the submarine "Ufa" officially joined the Russian Navy on November 16, 2022, and is the fourth submarine in a series consisting of 6 submarines of Project 636.3 assigned to the Pacific Fleet.

The submarines of this project are distinguished by the optimal combination of acoustic stealth and the ability to detect targets, as well as their powerful armament of torpedoes and missiles, with high-precision Caliber missiles forming the backbone of their strike capabilities. The Ufa submarine arrived at the fleet headquarters in December 2024.
