Henan opera was formerly known as Henan Bangzi, and Henan was abbreviated as "Yu", so it was called Henan opera. Henan Opera is the largest local drama genre in China. From the coast of the East China Sea to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, from the treasure island of Taiwan to the banks of the Yalu River, there are "Henan Opera fans" everywhere.

The 3 million-word "Chinese Henan Opera" series is jointly compiled by Henan Li Shujian Opera Art Center and Zhengzhou University Press. It is divided into 12 volumes: "Introduction to Henan Opera", "History of Henan Opera Development", "History of Henan Opera Spread", "History of Henan Opera Literature", "Henan Opera Music", "Henan Opera Directing Art", "Henan Opera Performing Arts", "Henan Opera Stage Art", "Henan Opera Characters", "Henan Opera Troupe", "Henan Opera Repertoire" and "Representative Singing Sections of Henan Opera".

Li Shujian, honorary president of Henan Yu Opera Theater and chief editor of the editorial board of the series, said that with its comprehensiveness, academic quality and authoritativeness, this series has filled the gap in the history of the development of Chinese Henan Opera without systematic documentation. It can be called the "Encyclopedia of Henan Opera" and provides comprehensive theoretical support for the research, inheritance and development of Henan Opera.

"This series of books lasted eight years, with several revisions of drafts, striving to make every detail stand the test of time."
