Danger Dan talks about previous relationships with men, sexual orientation and progressive blindness

Musician Danger Dan has spoken about a previous love affair with a man and his sexual orientation. “Although I never saw myself as particularly straight, I didn’t see myself as gay or bi either. I always didn't care about something like that," said the 43-year-old to the "Tagesspiegel". On his new album “Keine Angst”, which will be released on October 2nd, he sings, among other things, about his relationship with his ex-boyfriend. In view of threats to queer events from Islamists and Nazis, now is the right time for a gay love song: “I not only show solidarity with you, but I am one of you.”

In the interview, the musician, whose real name is Daniel Pongratz, also spoke about his progressive blindness. Danger Dan suffers from the hereditary eye disease retinitis pigmentosa. "The confrontation with one's own finiteness, as bitter as it is, can remind us of how valuable every moment is," he said. The diagnosis was a turning point in his biography.
