Taylor Swift breaks Spotify record with new single “Patient Zero”

Taylor Swift (36) has broken a record on the globally widely used streaming platform Spotify with her new single.

“On September 25, “Patient Zero” became the most-streamed song by a female artist in a single day so far in 2026, and Taylor Swift became the most-streamed song by a female artist in a single day so far this year,” Spotify said.

In the new song “Patient Zero,” superstar Swift sings about a toxic relationship. From the perspective of a healed ex-partner, Swift addresses the new woman at the side of a former lover in the song. Fans immediately speculated who Swift could be referring to - it wouldn't be the first time that she supposedly processed her personal experiences in a song.

The music video will only be presented on Sunday

Swift wants to present the music video for “Patient Zero” at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday. She published a first teaser on her social media channels. Hollywood stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell can be seen in the music video.

Swift released three more songs on Friday, including one titled "Cleveland!" a song about her wedding to American football professional Travis Kelce (36). The four songs, including the single “Patient Zero”, were released under the title “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore”.

Musically, the songs tie in with the pop sound of the original album “The Life of a Showgirl,” produced by Max Martin and Shellback and released almost a year ago, in October 2025. At the same time, Swift's typical melancholic tones can be heard.

The new titles on “The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore” were created at a meeting with producers Martin and Shellback in Sweden, Swift wrote on Instagram.

Swift continued to write that she traveled to Sweden to celebrate the success with Max Martin and Shellback: "But there was a studio there and we did what we always do when we feel something: We wrote more songs."

More new music?

Fans are now even hoping that more tracks will appear. Because the bonus album is divided into “Disc 1” and “Disc 2”. And “Disc 2” so far only consists of the four new songs, while “Disc 1” contains the original 12 tracks.
