DEM Party 4th Ordinary Congress: Bakırhan and Hatimoğulları Elected as Co-Chairmen

Registered delegates voted at the congress held yesterday at Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center. Bakırhan and Hatimoğulları, who were nominated again in the elections, were elected as co-chairs by receiving all 535 valid votes. At the congress, the full and substitute members of the Party Assembly (PM), Central Disciplinary Board and Conciliation Board were also determined.

While it was rumored in the backstage that the name of the DEM Party would be changed to "Democratic Republic Party", Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and DEM Party İmralı Delegation Member Pervin Buldan stated that they had entered a new era and said, "With a new congress in a few months, we will actually build a new movement as the Democratic Republic Movement. We are entering a new construction period as a party." While 35 members of the Party Assembly were not included in the new term, the number of members of the Party Assembly was reduced from 82 to 80. The change in the Party Assembly is seen as the beginning of the change that will take place at next year's congress.

Speaking at the congress, Tuncer Bakırhan said, "We aspire to govern Turkey. We are assertive in this regard. The congress, which we will start preparing for tomorrow, will establish a staff and a perspective that will govern Turkey. We will correct the economy, law, foreign policy, education and health. We aspire to solve all the problems of Turkey. We have only one agenda, and that is a democratic Turkey. We have only one agenda, and that is peace and a democratic society."
