The head of the EDOA of the Civil Guard in Segovia arrested for alleged drug trafficking

The head of the Organized Crime and Anti-Drug Team (EDOA) of the Civil Guard of Segovia, Miguel Ángel Barbero, has been arrested along with three other people in an operation by the armed institute related to drug trafficking.

Sources from the Government Subdelegation have reported the four arrests, within an investigation directed from Madrid by the central services of the Civil Guard that has culminated with the arrests in Segovia.

Among those arrested is Barbero. The other three detainees do not belong to the State security forces and bodies, and no further arrests are expected within the framework of this investigation.

Barbero's arrest occurs more than nine years after his previous arrest, also in an investigation related to drug trafficking, investigated for several crimes, including drug trafficking, membership in an organized criminal gang, bribery, revelation of secrets and omission of the duty to prosecute crime.

However, in July 2018, the Court of First Instance and Instruction number 5 of Segovia agreed to definitively dismiss the proceedings.

Barbero returned to his position as head of the Organized Crime and Anti-Drug Team of the Segovia Command, leading investigations and operations against drug trafficking and organized crime in the province until his arrest.
