DFB shock: Havertz and Musiala leave injured

Jürgen Klopp has to plan for the Nations League game against Greece on Sunday (8.45 p.m., in the WELT live ticker) and for the entire rest of the international break without Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala.

Both players are leaving the national team early due to injuries. The DFB announced this on Friday morning.

Havertz was in the starting line-up in the 1-1 draw in the Netherlands, but after around half an hour he grabbed his thigh. He had to be substituted, Younes Ebnoutalib came on as a substitute to make his DFB debut. Havertz's diagnosis: a muscle strain.

Musiala had to be replaced before kick-off. He injured himself while warming up. As the DFB announced, the FC Bayern star tore a muscle fiber in his right thigh. This means he will be out for several weeks. Nadiem Amiri took Musiala's place in the starting eleven.

National coach Jürgen Klopp had already confirmed on Thursday evening that Musiala's short-term absence had nothing to do with his neurological dysfunction with temporary absences, which led to two collapses in pre-season preparation. “It’s not good news, but in a way it’s good news because it’s a normal football injury,” Klopp said on RTL.

Havertz and Musiala were part of the first block of the 44-man squad split by Klopp. The plan for Musiala was for him to stay with the team after the first two of four games, when a large part of the squad was replaced. Jonathan Burkardt from Eintracht Frankfurt and Florian Wirtz from Liverpool FC are replacing Havertz and Musiala. Both were actually only scheduled for the second block of this international break.
