Defence, call for 2,300 initial Army volunteers: here's who can participate and how to apply

The Ministry of Defense published on 13 October the notice of a public competition for the inclusion of 2,300 places for "Initial Volunteers" in the Italian Army. This is the first Block of 2027.

Three blocks of incorporation are planned for next year, which overall will determine the recruitment into the Army of seven thousand volunteers in the initial fixed number. As regards this first call, the application must be submitted exclusively through the ufficio.difesa.it portal, logging in via SPID or Electronic Identity Card (CIE), by 11 November. Those born between 11 November 2002 and 11 November 2008, inclusive, can apply. The incorporation of the 1st block is expected approximately starting from May 2027.

Candidates will be assessed at the Selection Centers in Foligno, Bari, Milan, Palermo and Rome, on the basis of physical efficiency tests, subsequently psycho-physical assessments will be carried out through medical visits and specialist tests. Finally, an aptitude test is required to assess suitability for the service.

The jobs

The 2,300 positions are divided as follows: 2,212 for "employment tasks to be assigned by the Armed Forces"; 5 for the "Infrastructural Electrician" job assignment; 5 for the "Infrastructural Plumbing" job assignment; 10 for "Bricklayer" employment assignment; 10 for "Carpenter" employment position; 8 for "Blacksmith" employment assignment; 10 for the "Mechanic of vehicles and platforms" job; 10 for "Equestrian Explorer/Equestrian Artilleryman" employment assignment; 5 for the "Scout for mounted marching band" job assignment and 25 for the "1st level aircraft technician" job assignment.

The next steps and related deadlines

The second block will provide 2,300 places. The application for participation can be submitted from 25 January 2027 to 23 February, for those born between 23 February 2003 and 23 February 2009, inclusive. Finally, the third block will include 2,400 people (the application for participation can be submitted from 14 June to 13 July 2027, for those born between 13 July 2003 and 13 July 2009, inclusive).
