Djurgården defeats Mjällby 2-0 and hangs on in the battle for gold

For the second time in a few days, Djurgården has defeated Mjällby. The 4-0 win on Monday was followed up with a 2-0 win on Thursday night. The goalscoring dropped in the second half when Kristian Lien bumped in 1-0.

The most delicious action of the evening was Djurgården's second goal. A giant kick-out by Jacob Rinne freed Jeppe Okkels who elegantly lobbed over Mjällby's debuting goalkeeper Sebastian Hansen.

- I was very relieved that it went in. I thought it went away at first. But it was very nice to be able to contribute. The clean sheet is the most important thing, but if I get an assist, I'm happy for it, says Rinne.

Hooking up in the gold battle

Three recorded points for Djurgården means that they are seriously involved in the battle for gold during the Allsvenskan autumn. They are one point behind Hammarby in second place and are seven points up on Sirius.

It was the first time since spring 2024 that Djurgården managed to win three matches in a row in the league game.

- It was also about time. We run at every game and we'll see how it's enough, says Rinne.

New signing Charlie Rosenqvist made his debut for the visitors in the match. The winger from Kalmar was substituted in the second half.

For Mjällby's part, the allsvenskan's progress continues after the thunderous gold last year continues.

- It's damn hard to stand here again. We concede too many cheap goals. Last year we scored in every game and it doesn't feel like that now, says team captain Tom Pettersson.
