Dominique de Villepin offers a cultural program focused on “culture for all”

The almost presidential candidate Dominique de Villepin proposed Tuesday that after "culture for all" and "of all", come the time for "culture by all", thanks to a development of practices, because, he warned, "culture is no longer a supplement of the soul, it is a battlefield".

“What feeds a people? What raises a child? What makes a nation recognize itself in a common story?” asks the former prime minister of Jacques Chirac in a video posted on X, to present his program for culture.

Very critical of the current situation, he recommends a development of practices “because we only really receive what we have tried to do”. He pleads for “every child in France to practice an art, more than 100 hours a year, from primary to middle school, music, theater, painting, writing, in arts centers open in each school area and open in the evening and on weekends to all arts”. He adds “5,000 artists in residence” in schools, nursing homes or hospitals, artists benefiting from a “status” corresponding to “a guaranteed income, a solidarity fund for the profession, rights vis-à-vis the platforms”.

“Let the machine finance what it competes with”

He also envisages that “the works which trained the models” of artificial intelligence be “paid”, and that “the contents generated by the machines (be) labeled and taxed to finance human creation, that the machine finances what it competes with”. He finally recommends imposing “20% cultural broadcasting” and “culture during prime time, not at midnight” in public broadcasting to which he wants to restore “its mission”.
