Armenian Prosecutor General Galstyan resigns after refusing to hear a case against the Armenian Catholicos

According to the TV channel, Galstyan initially did not want to take up the case for fear of serious consequences for his reputation.

A source indicated that the Public Prosecutor was informed that the case will not reach trial and will be rejected during the preliminary investigation.

The channel reported that Galstyan was later forced to choose between participating in the trial as a public prosecutor or resigning, so he chose to resign.

According to Channel 5, Armenian Deputy Prosecutor General Aram Aramyan will represent the prosecution in the case.

The Prosecutor General's Office confirmed Galstyan's resignation, but stated that it was not related to the case of the All-Armenian Catholicos.

Prosecutor Galestian followed the example of three judges who refused to consider the case against the Catholicos and the bishops.

The Armenian Investigative Committee initiated criminal proceedings following Garegin II's decision to strip Bishop Gevork Saroyan (regular name Arman Saroyan), who supported the authorities amid the conflict with the Armenian Apostolic Church, of his priestly rank.
