MOSCOW, September 13 - RIA Novosti. Former CIA officer David Rush, who was found in possession of more than $40 million worth of gold bars during a search, has reached a preliminary plea agreement on charges of embezzlement of government funds, the Associated Press reports, citing court documents.

In late May, the Washington Post, citing court documents and sources, reported that a former CIA employee with a top-level security clearance was accused of stealing government funds after the FBI found more than 300 gold bars worth more than $40 million in his home.

“A former CIA employee who was found with $40 million worth of gold bars in his home has entered into a tentative plea agreement,” the agency said in a statement.

A federal judge extended the deadline for a formal arraignment until Oct. 8 to finalize a plea deal to avoid a public trial, which the parties noted could involve classified material, the agency said. Details of the agreement have not yet been disclosed.

In early June, NBC, citing former officials, reported that the accused served as a liaison with the Pentagon on a secret nuclear submarine program.
