Former Hamas leader's bodyguard is accused of taking part in European terrorism after settling in the UK by disguising himself as a refugee

The British daily The Times reported on the 27th (local time) that a former bodyguard of the head of Hamas, who was recognized as a refugee in the UK 10 years ago and acquired British nationality, is being investigated on charges of participating in a terrorist plot to attack Jews in Europe and procuring weapons.

This man, currently in his 40s, applied for asylum in the UK in 2015 and was granted refugee status, giving him the right to permanent residence.

The Times pointed out that it was unclear how much information the British government officials who reviewed the asylum knew about this man, but that it was publicly known that the man was a Hamas member.

This person later received British citizenship, lived with his wife and children in a house in the countryside of England, and disguised himself as an 'IT expert'.

He began collaborating with Hamas in plotting terrorist attacks against Jews in Europe, but does not appear to have been listed as a person of interest by British security authorities.

He was arrested by the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA) in London in November last year. This is because Israeli intelligence agency Mossad and German intelligence agencies discovered the terrorist plan.

In the middle of this month, German federal prosecutors indicted seven people on charges of plotting to kill representatives of the Israeli community, Jewish believers, and pro-Israel figures in Germany or Austria on the second anniversary of the October 7 raid last year.

The Times pointed out that the Home Office, the domestic security service (MI5), and the foreign secret service (MI6) are likely to face questions about how this person was able to settle down in the UK and whether his recent activities were being monitored.
