Iran lifts restrictions on Iraqi ships in the Strait of Hormuz

Iran allowed Iraq free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, eliminating the requirement for special permits. The IRNA agency reports this.

“Brotherly Iraq is freed from any restrictions we have imposed in the Strait of Hormuz,” the statement said.

Tehran's decision became one of Baghdad's main requests during the visit of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baker Ghalibaf to Iraq. Previously, Iraqi tankers could pass through the strait only after receiving special permission.
