(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Yeon-jeong and Lee Yu-lip = On the 17th, People Power Party floor leader Jeong Jeong-sik demanded, "President Lee Jae-myung should immediately dismiss the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency chief and the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency security chief," in relation to the controversy over the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's security chief using physical force against his party's National Assembly aides.

At a general meeting of lawmakers held at the National Assembly, floor leader Jeong said this while again claiming, "The head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's security department committed an assault by twisting the arm of our party aide and grabbing the nape of the neck."

He said, “How can the police be the so-called ‘people’s staff’ for the general public and ordinary people when a high-ranking police officer is so indifferent in front of the National Assembly and his aides?” and added, “We will take strong legal action at the party level against assaults that cannot be tolerated and cannot be tolerated.”

He then urged, “Please apologize to the victims and the People Power Party for this incident and promise to prevent recurrence.”

The day before, lawmakers Na Kyung-won and Jo Bae-sook visited the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency to protest against Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Park Jeong-bo's remarks, saying, "If you mindlessly sympathize with illegal activities on the side and are accused of being an accomplice, you could be disgraced," regarding the ongoing protests at the Jamsil poll counting center.

During this process, controversy arose the day before that the head of the security department at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency used physical force against a member of the National Assembly's aides.

Regarding the shortage of ballot papers on this day, floor leader Jeong said, "There are bound to be limits to the government investigation alone, and the joint investigation headquarters of the prosecution and police, which is influenced by the regime, alone cannot reveal the truth of this case. We need a strict investigation of the truth through a special prosecutor recommended by the opposition party," and urged the Democratic Party to accept the special prosecution law proposed by the People Power Party.

Also, regarding the two members of the non-negotiating group who were assigned to the opposition party in the National Assembly's State Affairs Investigation Special Committee, he said, "We asked the Democratic Party to assign (all two members) to the New Reform Party from the beginning, and since it is the authority of the Speaker of the National Assembly, we also strongly urged the Speaker's office."
