Palestine controversy during Ed Sheeran's US tour: Artists withdraw

Finneas, one of the names who withdrew from the tour, emphasized freedom of expression when explaining his decision.

Finneas: “Artists should not be silenced when they raise their voices for the oppressed.” he said.

Lukas Graham also argued that it is the right of artists to talk about war and the losses suffered by civilians.

"No matter where they live, no matter what flag flies over them, we should be able to talk about war, civilians killed, and children who deserve to grow up," the group said in a statement. He stated:

Aaron Rowe stated that his decision was not easy and said that Sheeran was an important friend to him and changed his career.

Beoga also stated that performing in front of large crowds is a dream, but they cannot accept playing in venues that "silence someone who defends a free Palestine."

Macklemore, on the other hand, said that he understood the difficult situation Ed Sheeran was in, but criticized the British singer's failure to take a clear stance.

Stating that speaking about Palestine could have career consequences, the rapper said that he lost money, sponsorships, festivals, special concerts, relationships and various opportunities.

Macklemore, who was only able to attend two concerts on the tour, stated that the events were "the most successful tour he has ever been on" for him as they helped talk about Palestine again.

The controversy that started with the removal of Macklemore turned into the departure of all front artists from the remaining part of Ed Sheeran's US tour, with Finneas, Lukas Graham, Aaron Rowe and Beoga also withdrawing from the program.
