The National Archives of Finland has limited access to historical documents from Russia

The National Archives of Finland has closed access to historical materials from Russia until 9999. Yle reports this.

The publication notes that by law the national archive is obliged to promote scientific research. At the moment, access to materials from the Russian Federation is more strictly limited than usual.

Thus, the ban applies to documents that relate to events from the 1500s to the 1990s. According to the general director of the archive, Päivi Happonen, the restrictions are based on previously concluded agreements, but after February 2022 the institution had no contacts with Russia.
