La mission a également dévoilé d’autres stèles en calcaire, toujours gravées de hiéroglyphes évoquant le pharaon Merenptah, le couronnement de Ramsès II, et Horus le dieu qui protégeait le pouvoir des dynasties égyptiennes.

Ces découvertes éclairent « non seulement la fonction militaire de la forteresse, mais aussi la vie quotidienne de ses habitants », souligne le ministère égyptien. Les archéologues ont aussi dévoilé un vaste ensemble d’habitations en brique de terre crue reliées à l’ensemble de la forteresse. Selon les historiens elles témoignent d’une planification urbaine sophistiquée à l’intérieur des fortifications avec un croisement de rue orientées est-ouest et nord-sud.

Le complexe comprend également des silos à grains et des fours cylindriques pour la cuisson des poteries, signe d’une gestion rigoureuse du stockage des aliments et des ressources au sein de la forteresse. La mission égyptienne a trouvé des pièces qui servaient de greniers à grains, dans lesquelles se trouvaient de grandes jarres en céramique qui contenaient encore des grains de blé carbonisés.

Tous ces nouveaux trésors archéologiques vont donc préciser « l’urbanisme au sein des anciennes forteresses égyptiennes, tout en confirmant l’importance stratégique du site comme place forte établie sur la frontière occidentale du Delta » se réjouissent les experts du ministère des Antiquités. Ils devraient éclairer aussi le système de défense militaire de la ligne occidentale de l’Égypte au temps de Ramsès II.
