License plate data is released monthly by Fenabrave and reflects the performance of the Brazilian automotive sector, including cars, light commercial vehicles, buses, trucks, motorcycles and road equipment.
Vehicle registrations broke a record for the month, in September. 509,686 units were registered – growth of 8.32% compared to September 2025 and 1.15% compared to August. The data are from the National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distribution (Fenabrave).
This result includes the sale of cars, light commercial vehicles (pickups and vans), buses, trucks, motorcycles and road implements [such as trailers and bodies].
Considering the accumulated result for the year, between January and September, the increase was 14.41%, with more than 4.2 million units registered.
“The market continues to demonstrate demand for new vehicles, even in a still complex credit environment”, explains the president of Fenabrave, Arcelio Junior.
According to him, for cars and light commercial vehicles, for example, competition between brands and special sector promotion programs – such as Move Brasil and Carro Sustentável – continue to play an important role in consumer decisions.
According to Arcelio Junior, the Move Program, which offered incentives for renewing the truck fleet, helped to “stop the downward trend” in this segment.
As a result, the truck segment grew 2.51% compared to August and 2.65% compared to September 2025, although the accumulated result for the year continues to be negative (-3.89%).
"In heavy vehicles, the financial cost has an important impact because we are talking about an investment linked to economic activity. But the special lines linked to Move Brasil, already exhausted, helped to reverse the downward movement", highlighted the president of the federation.
Other segments
The automobile and light commercial segment continues to grow above expectations. Compared to August, growth was 2.13%. Compared to the same month last year, the increase was 16.16%.
As for buses, growth was 12.09% compared to August and 18.43% compared to September 2025. Increase also driven by the Move Brasil program.
The motorcycle segment showed a drop of 0.09% compared to August and 0.41% compared to last year, a result considered “close to stability” by Fenabrave.
Projections
Fenabrave maintained its expectation of growth in registrations for the end of this year. The forecast is that the sector, as a whole, should grow by around 8.6%, with more than 5.3 million units sold.
The entity admits, however, that this forecast may be revised in November. “The current results indicate a better end of the year than expected, for most segments, but we will wait for October's performance, which may indicate adjustments in the market”, stated Arcelio Junior.
