Investigators are examining the connection between drone discoveries in Wunstorf and Leipzig

After the attempted attack with an explosive drone at Leipzig Airport, a drone found in Lower Saxony last week has become the focus of investigators. The Federal Prosecutor's Office is already examining a possible connection to the Leipzig incident. Now research by “Süddeutscher Zeitung”, NDR and WDR shows that officials came across suspicious material days later just a few meters from the site. They are currently assuming that it is explosives, as the research association reported on Tuesday, citing security circles.

At the beginning of August, a drone loaded with explosives was discovered near Ukrainian cargo planes at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The airport is a transshipment point for military aid deliveries to Ukraine. At the beginning of September, the federal government blamed Russia for the attempted bomb attack and announced new punitive measures. Moscow rejects the allegations.

Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) reported last week, citing security circles, that the Wunstorf find was the same drone model as the one that was discovered at Leipzig Airport in August. A component is said to come from a 3D printer; the design is reportedly not available on the market. The Federal Prosecutor's Office did not comment on the report.

As "SZ", NDR and WDR further report, after analyzing the drone found near Wunstorf, investigators also assume that it may have been near the military airfield for a long time, possibly even for two years. A spokeswoman for the Federal Prosecutor General referred to ongoing investigations and did not want to comment on the case.

According to the research association, Wunstorf's discovery was also a topic on Tuesday in the so-called "intelligence situation" in the Chancellery, where the heads of the security authorities meet weekly.
