Employee fatally injured in accident at Oktoberfest

An employee died in an accident on a ride at the Oktoberfest. According to the police's initial findings, the 52-year-old was on the ground directly in the danger area when the gondola of the Freefall Tower moved down at high speed. The employee was hit by the gondola and suffered life-threatening injuries. He was resuscitated and taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.

Investigations are ongoing

The area around the Freefall Tower was cordoned off and a crisis intervention team took care of eyewitnesses and the ride operators. Passengers were never in danger. It is unclear why the employee was in an area during the journey where he should not have been, it was said in the evening. The police are investigating the cause of the accident. Police asked witnesses who saw the accident to come forward.

Second incident since the weekend

The accident at Oktoberfest was the second incident involving a ride this year. It was only on Saturday evening that passengers had to wait upside down in a stationary revolving carousel for around two minutes before they could be freed from their seats. The cause of the breakdown was apparently a defective sensor. After another inspection by the TÜV, the carousel was released for operation again that same evening.
