Wife and supporters pray for Jalser Renier after arrest on suspicion of electoral crime and criminal association

Doctor Tatyanne Aguillera, wife of Jalser Renier (PSDB), and his supporters gathered in front of the Federal Police headquarters, in Boa Vista, this Thursday (24), after the candidate's arrest. The group prayed and sang the hymns "That which seemed impossible" and "There are no bolts, no doors" in the place.

Renier was arrested on suspicion of electoral crime and criminal association. Agents were carrying out search and seizure warrants in an investigation into money laundering when they found R$19,000 in cash and spreadsheets related to the campaign, which raised the suspicion of vote buying.

The candidate was taken to the PF headquarters, where he gave a statement. In an interview with g1, his lawyer, Carlos Vila Real, said that among the documents seized, there were spreadsheets with the names of campaigners, paid supporters and volunteers.

"The delegate understood that, initially, this could constitute, in a hypothesis, there were signs of a crime of illegally capturing suffrage, buying votes. In this situation, he arbitrated a bail in the amount of 100 minimum wages, which is equivalent to more than R$ 160 thousand", said the lawyer.

During the procedure, the defense considered the bail amount "absurd" and asked the police chief to lower it. However, after the conversation, the federal delegate revoked the bail and added the criminal association category, a crime that does not allow bail. As a result, the candidate remained in prison and must undergo a custody hearing.

"We regret the decision of the police authority and we believe that tomorrow an electoral judge will have to analyze the case with all the technique. The Federal Public Ministry will be heard, as well as the legal representatives of the defense. We believe that, in the first moment that there is a judicial analysis, this error by the Federal Police must be corrected by the Electoral Court", stated Vila Real.

Money laundering operation

The operation investigating Jalser for money laundering was launched this Thursday by the PF and carried out two search and seizure warrants at his home and office. It was during this operation that agents found evidence of an electoral crime.

Named Operation Filargíria, the work was an offshoot of an investigation that arrested a man with R$305,000 in cash in October 2025.

"The investigations revealed evidence of repeated actions in the delivery of cash to third parties, in addition to the use of pass-through accounts to move amounts supposedly coming from public resources", informed the PF.

The PF's idea with Operation Filargíria is to have access to new evidence that clarifies the origin and destination of the resources handled, in addition to identifying other parties involved or beneficiaries of the financial operations investigated.

The office targeted by the searches was the same one where Jalser was arrested in 2021 for ordering the torture and kidnapping of journalist Romano do Anjos (understand below).

Agents used two unmarked vehicles in the operation. The vehicles were parked at each of the entrances to the office, which is located on a corner. Furthermore, part of the street was closed.

The operation's warrants were carried out by the Ready Intervention Group (GPI), a specialized unit of the PF that works in crisis situations and in medium and high-risk operations.

Jalser Renier History

Jalser Renier Padilha is one of Roraima's best-known politicians. He was a deputy for 27 years, but had his mandate revoked by the Legislative Assembly of Roraima (ALE-RR) in 2022, for breach of decorum. The impeachment occurred after he was accused of being the person behind the kidnapping and torture of journalist Romano dos Anjos, in 2020.

In the criminal proceedings regarding the journalist's case, he is accused of seven crimes: qualified kidnapping, qualified torture, constitution of a private militia, qualified damage, aggravated robbery, false imprisonment and qualified domestic rape.

The revocation had also left Jalser ineligible until 2030. However, in August, Minister Nunes Marques, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), granted an injunction that partially suspended the effects of the revocation. With this, he was authorized to participate in the convention and other acts necessary to contest this year's elections.
