MEPs are examining the issue of lifting the immunities of three Polish politicians

It is foreign MEPs who deal with matters related to lifting the immunities of Poles.

Poles have dominated the activities of the JURI commission this term - comments Krzysztof Śmiszek, MEP of the New Left, in an interview with RMF FM. As he adds, this is a consequence of the Coalition's announcements on October 15 regarding the settlement of irregularities during the PiS government.

What is the Obajtek case about?

The case of Daniel Obajtek concerns criminal and fiscal charges. A report on his case is being prepared by Spanish MEP Adrián Vázquez Lázara from the European People's Party. This includes, among other things, providing the head of the tax office in Myślenice with untruths by underestimating revenues from free benefits. These will include benefits received from Orlen for health care.

The second topic concerns the reduction of public law liabilities to the State Treasury due to the solidarity levy for 2020.

Problems of MEP Jaki

Patryk Jaki's case concerns the delegation of a Prison Service officer to a higher position without a legal basis.

The report is prepared by Lithuanian MEP Dainius Žalimas from the Renew Europe faction. In this context, allegations of abuse of powers and failure to fulfill obligations are raised.

He was supposed to deny the Holocaust. Will Braun lose his immunity?

The most advanced case is Grzegorz Braun. The committee is to consider and possibly adopt a draft report on the waiver of his immunity. This concerns Braun's statements denying the Holocaust and questioning the existence of gas chambers in Auschwitz. An application in this matter was submitted by the Institute of National Remembrance. The author of the report is French MEP Pascale Piera from the Patriots for Europe faction. As an RMF FM journalist found out, even though Braun's case is being handled by a right-wing MEP, Braun has no chance of getting a positive opinion in the report.

Undoubtedly, MEP Braun, who is building an election campaign for the Polish Sejm on controversies and breaking the law, has contributed greatly to this number of proceedings, says Śmiszek.
