MOSCOW, September 3 - RIA Novosti. On the eve of City Day, scammers are sending out messages about the sale of fake concert tickets, and also pasting QR codes on city posters leading to phishing sites, lawyer Nadiya Samarkhanova told RIA Novosti.

“On social networks and on message boards, offers to purchase last-minute or exclusive tickets to major concerts and festivals appear en masse. At the same time, purchasing tickets from resellers or on unofficial resources completely deprives a citizen of the protection of the law “On the Protection of Consumer Rights.” In case of fraud, it is almost impossible to return money through the court, since the seller hides his real data,” said Samarkhanova.

She also emphasized that, in addition to all other schemes, attackers began to physically place stickers with QR codes on top of or next to official city posters. When scanned, the smartphone redirects the user to a phishing site with a requirement to pay a symbolic “reservation fee” or download a malicious application that gains access to banking transactions.

The lawyer added that scammers organize fundraisers on the eve of the holiday, for example, for fireworks, assistance to city shelters or veterans.

“We must remember that real charitable foundations are required to have a public offer, transparent reporting and verified details, which fraudulent one-day funds lack,” concluded Samarkhanova.
