Ex-partner attacks Mariem in Calitri with a hammer, arrested by the police

Stakeouts, phone calls then the raid on the home of his ex-partner who had decided to leave him: he almost smashed her skull with a hammer blow before running away, but luckily Mariem, this is the name of the 28-year-old hit by her ex in Calitri, in the province of Avellino, is not in danger of her life, say the doctors at the Potenza hospital, where the young Tunisian national has been on a guarded prognosis since Saturday afternoon.

The attacker, also 28 years old and a fellow countryman, was intercepted last night in Lioni, about 20 kilometers from Calitri, by the Carabinieri of the Avellino provincial command and stopped.

"The community - says the mayor of Calitri, Attilio Maria Galgano - is in shock, but the doctors' reassurances comfort us. We are in constant contact with the health workers, ready and available to give our support. Now the most important news is that Mariem is out of danger and that she can find the tranquility she deserves. We expect her soon".

Mariem arrived in Calitri last June from Casal di Principe, following the advice of a friend who had found a job in the area. Since July, in fact, he has been working at the counter of the "Idee Golose" bar, in the center of the small town, with just over four thousand residents. "Yesterday was his day off - says the owner, Francesco Pastore - a reliable person, always available and also very reserved". However, little is known about the attacker, who like the young woman was a regular on the national territory. The man entered Mariem's ​​house on Saturday and attacked her before fleeing: the neighbours, alarmed by the screams coming from the house, called the police. Help arrived promptly and the young woman was transported by air ambulance to Potenza hospital. The investigations are coordinated by the Avellino Prosecutor's Office.
