Ex Ilva, meeting at Palazzo Chigi between government and unions

According to what we learn, the discussion began at Palazzo Chigi between the government and the trade union organizations Fim, Fiom, Uilm, Usb and Federmanager on the prospects of the former Ilva, in light of the rejection by the Court of Appeal of Milan of the requests for suspension presented by the companies in extraordinary administration Ilva and Acciaierie d'Italia. This is the fourth meeting at Palazzo Chigi with the unions since the beginning of the year, after those of 5 March, 28 July and 8 September. Since the beginning of the legislature, however, there have been twenty meetings of the table regarding the dispute chaired by the undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council Alfredo Mantovano, in addition to discussions held with local authorities and with representatives of companies and related industries.

Commitment to a green future for steel, with electric furnaces powered by Dri, continuation of the tender for the sale of the plants, protection of workers, both in the steel mills and in related industries through a layoff model that does not correspond to the CIG for cessation of activities and the start of reindustrialization projects in the Taranto area. These are the points of the government's strategy for the former Ilva which, according to what we learn, were illustrated by the undersecretary to the Prime Minister Alfredo Mantovano to the unions during the meeting. Mantovano also announced that the government intends to bring a decree to the Council of Ministers today with measures to support workers.

"The workers are mobilized to block layoffs (in related industries). We think that in the situation we are in, our proposal, the one we put forward to the government, was the only practicable proposal. That is, that of a public company that gives continuity to decarbonisation and guarantees production and employment". The general secretary of Fiom Michele De Palma said this before entering Palazzo Chigi for the meeting. De Palma specified how "the delay has generated a complex situation. Now the point is how to safeguard workers and decarbonisation. But on the other hand, production and employment, otherwise we run the risk of stopping our country's steel production".
