Recently, Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (R) chief Chirag Paswan, while talking to a news portal, raised questions on the law and order situation of Bihar.
He said, "I feel ashamed that I am with a government where such incidents are happening. No one is safe in Bihar today."
Chirag described the Bihar administration as 'useless' and said, "It is not in their power to keep the people of Bihar safe. I feel ashamed that I am supporting such a government."
Recently many videos related to sexual violence against girls have gone viral in the state. One such video was also from Jamui Lok Sabha constituency from where Chirag Paswan himself has been the MP and currently his brother-in-law Arun Bharti is the MP from this seat.
After this statement of Chirag Paswan, many questions have arisen, the most important of which is whether Chirag can separate from NDA? Is Chirag making a bet for the upcoming UP and Punjab assembly elections through these statements? Or is this statement an attempt to position oneself strongly as a youth leader amidst the controversial statement of Samrat Chaudhary?
This is not the first time that Chirag has raised questions on his own government.
In July 2025, Patna's big businessman Gopal Khemka was murdered near Gandhi Maidan.
Even after that, raising questions on law and order, Chirag Paswan had told the journalists, "Neither will I try to run away from this question, nor should our government do. It is a matter of concern that such a big incident is carried out so openly in an urban area, where the police station is nearby and big officers are nearby."
That is, Chirag had given this statement a few months before the Bihar Assembly elections. This statement was considered as his pressure politics so that he could get more seats in the assembly elections.
The same thing happened. In the 2025 assembly elections, LJP (R) got 29 seats and the party performed well and won 19 seats.
Is this time also Chirag targeting the elections of UP and Punjab by keeping the gun on the shoulder of law and order of Bihar?
Regarding the UP elections, Chirag Paswan has said, "The party will contest elections in UP. What will be the form of the alliance, it is yet to be decided. But our preparation is to contest elections on 403 seats. If there is an alliance then it will be fine, otherwise we will contest the elections alone."
Journalist Daksha Priya, who is continuously covering LJP (R), says, "The party wants to contest the elections of UP and Punjab with BJP. For this, Jamui MP Arun Bharti is continuously active. Chirag's statement regarding law and order of Bihar or contesting 403 seats in UP seems to be a part of his pressure politics. He is not going to leave BJP and go anywhere. Even before Bihar elections, he used to give many such statements."
Let us tell you that Arun Bharti is an MP from Jamui and is in-charge of the party in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand. He has also been made election in-charge in Punjab.
After becoming Punjab in-charge, Arun Bharti told journalists in Patna a week ago, we are making strong preparations in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab and we will register a big sub position in both the places.
Senior journalist Arvind Sharma says, "The party wants to contest elections in the areas of UP adjoining Bihar and from Bijnor. Ram Vilas Paswan had also once contested elections from Bijnor. As of now, it seems that the party will contest the elections only by staying in the NDA fold. Chirag wants to make his place in the Dalit politics of UP, but it remains to be seen what he can do."
If we look at the activities of LJP (R) in UP in the recent past, the party has organized events ranging from Dalit Chaupal to Chanakya Chaupal. The party also organized dialogue programs with Inter students. At the same time, on September 27, a program named 'Youth Bole Toh' was organized at the Parade Ground in Prayagraj in which Chirag talked to the youth.
After Chirag, Arun Bharti emerged as the second most important face of the party in organizing all these programs.
Daksha Priya tells BBC, "Chirag Paswan is active in Delhi politics, hence Arun Bharti is shaping the party organizationally. But in this process, many old faces are being sidelined and new faces who are in the good books of Arun Bharti are getting responsibilities."
Chirag Paswan, who gave the slogan of 'Bihar First, Bihari First', also keeps trying to establish himself as a youth icon. This is the reason why the party has started the 'Youth Bole Toh' program from 24th September. It started from Patna and its blueprint is very much like the echo of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's program 'Students'.
Recently, when the party's national executive was announced, Chirag Paswan had said, "We have made big changes. Elections are to be held in different states and giving priority to the elections, we are giving place to women and youth in the executive. These young faces will work with experienced people."
It is clear that Chirag's focus is on the youth population.
In the politics of Bihar, where the era of Lalu-Nitish and Ram Vilas Paswan has come to an end, Chirag wants to gallop his political vehicle with the help of this youth.
After the announcement of LJP (R)'s national executive, the party reiterated its resolve to make Chirag the Chief Minister of the state.
Chirag Paswan wants to do state politics apart from the central politics of his father Ram Vilas Paswan.
Journalist Arvind Sharma says, "Chirag is a leader of the new generation. The problem with him is that he wants to remain in the government and also wants to become the leader of the new generation. It is also clear that if he follows the rules of the government, he will not be able to become a leader of the new generation, that is why he keeps giving such statements. It is a do or die situation for him because if he does not do so now, he will remain an ordinary leader."
Arvind Sharma says, "But Chirag knows how to persist even in adverse circumstances. He is a bigger meteorologist than Ram Vilas Paswan. He was evicted, family broke, party broken but he allowed himself to remain Modi's Hanuman. Right now when BJP is on the backfoot, Chirag wants to take advantage of it. Right now his only two goals are UP-Punjab elections and a big role for himself in Bihar elections in the year 2030."
But will this pressure politics of Chirag continue for long?
On this question, senior journalist Faizan Ahmed says, "It is ridiculous to hear criticism of one's own government again and again from Chirag's mouth. He comes in the public space and gives such statements for public consumption. There is a lack of seriousness and honesty in his statements which shows his immaturity in politics. If he has a problem with the law and order situation of Bihar, then he can also raise this issue with the PM and the Home Minister."
Taking a dig at Chirag's statement, RJD leader Rohini Acharya said, "What auspicious moment is Chirag Paswan ji waiting for to resign?"
JDU leader Lacey Singh said, "Chirag is a big leader of NDA. Can't comment on him. But the incidents (violence against women) that have happened are not acceptable in any civilized society."
There is criticism of Chirag Paswan's working methods and his statements even within his own party.
A leader of the party, on the condition of anonymity, says, "Their Youth Bole Toh program was planned in which Chirag Paswan had to talk to five selected youth. There were youth on Chirag Paswan's stage but a crowd was gathered under the stage like a rally in which there were very few youth. Chirag wants to contest the UP-Punjab elections and also wants to change his portfolio i.e. food processing. He feels that he should get some other important department."
Where can Chirag's politics go next?
On this question, journalist Arvind Sharma says, "Chirag knows that there is no scope for an upper caste leader in Bihar. There is scope for an OBC and Dalit leader here. As an OBC leader, Tejashwi has held one end of Bihar's politics. Chirag is trying to hold the other end."
He says, "My guess is that Chirag will fight the Lok Sabha elections by staying in the NDA, but he will fight the 2030 Bihar elections by forming a new alliance which will include Prashant Kishor, Congress and Chirag. Prashant Kishor and Chirag do not make statements against each other. At the same time, after the defeat in the assembly elections, the meeting of Prashant Kishor and Priyanka Gandhi is also important."
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary's statements on the viral video related to Bharat Tiwari encounter and violence against women have increased the anger towards him. Due to which the ruling party and opposition parties are keeping an eye on the politics of Bihar. Chirag Paswan is also one of those who would like to take advantage of every changing political situation.
