Trump-Xi meet: Was it really as warm as it appeared?

China on Monday gave some more information about what was agreed upon during the meeting between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump last week.

This revealed some concrete results of the meeting. But both the countries did not issue any joint statement and no major success was achieved in the talks.

Instead, both governments released their own details of the meeting.

This is perhaps an indication that despite the White House visit and promises to warm relations, Washington and Beijing are still wary of each other.

Four things have now come to light about this conversation. However, answers to some questions have still not been received.

Beijing says that China and America have agreed to start new talks on AI. The next meeting on this issue will be held in late November.

There is a competition going on between the two countries to create modern artificial intelligence. The use of AI is increasing in everything from business to military planning. In such a situation, the new talks indicate that both the countries are feeling the need to set some security limits for this technology.

Both countries have also agreed to create a communication system to inform each other about AI-related incidents. Its purpose is to prevent any major conflict between the two countries due to any misunderstanding or sudden incident.

China's state media confirmed for the first time on Monday that the temporary agreement on trade between the two countries has been extended till January 10.

With this short extension, it has been decided that the two leaders will meet again in two major international events to be held later this year. Trump will attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in Shenzhen, China in November. At the same time, Xi Jinping will go to Miami for the G20 summit in December.

China has succeeded in reducing tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods sent to America. It is expected that in return China will also reduce tariffs on American goods.

There was no mention of Taiwan in the information released by the White House. But this issue was clearly important for Chinese President Xi Jinping. According to the details of the meeting released by China, Xi Jinping told Donald Trump that the US should formally oppose Taiwan's independence and proceed with caution on the issue.

China says it will allow more foreign financial institutions, including US-backed banks, investment companies and insurance companies, to apply to do business and open offices in the country. However, their applications will be approved only under the laws and rules of China.
