Indonesia's new second generation Chen Shuru studied puppetry hard and won the Youth Golden Palm Award for Best Actor

Yunlin County is known as the "Hometown of Puppetry", but the skills are in danger of being lost. Chen Shuru from Xizhen Village, Dapi Township, Yunlin, is a new second-generation Indonesian. She grew up in a theater troupe and learned the art from her second uncle, Chen Wenzhe, the leader of the Yunlin Wuzhou Xiaotaoyuan Palm Troupe. With her solid puppetry and oral skills, she has won the Youth Golden Palm Award in recent years and gained attention. Last year, she won the "Best Leading Actor Award", becoming a very bright female lead.

On this day, the community of Dapixi Town coincided with the annual celebration. A puppet puppet show came out with a eloquent and rich voice, which was matched with the correct Taiwanese and the tone full of "breathing". It was hard to imagine that it was uttered by the 24-year-old artist Chen Shuru. Combined with the superb puppet manipulation skills, the audience was amazed.

As a new second generation, Chen Shuru recalled that she grew up in a theater troupe run by her parents. She heard that her mother rocked her while performing puppet shows when she was a baby. She is no stranger to puppet shows, but she officially entered the world of puppet shows in the second grade of elementary school. At that time, the county government had the "Yuanmeng Jianbing Puppet Show Rooting Promotion", and my second uncle, Chen Wenzhe, happened to be the instructor, so I stepped into the door of learning. From the beginning, I helped to get props and play music, and gradually learned the basic puppetry techniques and dialogues.

Chen Shuru said that her parents gave support and encouragement to whether she wanted to specialize in learning traditional skills. They believed that this was not only a rich knowledge but also a skill. Therefore, she continued to study with her elders in junior high school and high school, and gradually integrated puppetry into her daily life.

Chen Shuru said frankly that as a female actor, she had to overcome many innate challenges in learning. For example, it is difficult for her voice to be as deep as a man's. Therefore, she needs to spend a lot of time thinking about the pronunciation position of her mouth, the use of her Dantian, and the switching of the character's voice. In addition, in the face of the objective conditions of relatively petite figures, they also try to use wooden boards to increase the height, or wear special high heels to overcome the height gap, showing a flexible and smooth figure in puppeteering.

Chen Shuru said that she participated in the Youth Golden Palm Award last year and won the "Best Actor Award". This award is not a personal end point, but the result of the team's joint efforts. It is also a great affirmation of her perseverance over the years. But now she is "still on the road of learning" and hopes to continue to improve her puppetry movements and dialogue. She also hopes to use her own experience to attract more new generations to know, love and join the ranks of inheriting puppetry.
