Taipei Confucius Temple holds memorial ceremony for the 2576th anniversary of Confucius’ birth. Japanese groups present certificates of appreciation

Today is Teachers' Day, and a memorial ceremony in Taipei City to commemorate the 2576th anniversary of the birth of Confucius, the most holy master of Dacheng, was held grandly in the morning at the Taipei Confucius Temple. Lin Yihua, the deputy mayor of Taipei City, serves as the main presenter, Kong Chuichang, the 79th generation grandson of Confucius, serves as the sacrificial officer, and the descendants of Confucius Temple land donors such as Ku Hongyi, Chen Chiyu, and Datong District Mayor Hong Yuhuai serve as sub-presenters. They all follow the traditional ancient rituals and pay tribute to the most holy teacher Confucius. The number of people attending the ceremony was as large as usual, and many foreign tourists also gathered at the Confucius Temple to enjoy the traditional ceremony.

The Taipei Confucius Temple said that this year’s ceremony to commemorate Confucius ushered in a relationship between the Confucius Temple and the Temple that spanned half a century. The Kume Chongsheng Association from Okinawa, Japan, organized a special delegation to come to Taiwan and presented a certificate of thanks to the Taipei Confucius Temple during the ceremony. Back in 1973, the Okinawa Kumi Chongsheng Association came to Taiwan to visit the Taipei Confucius Temple in order to rebuild the Okinawa Confucius Temple and learn about the ceremony of worshiping Confucius and related sacrificial culture. The following year, the Taipei Chongsheng Association presented the Confucius shrine and related sacrificial artifacts to support the Kume Chongsheng Association in rebuilding the Confucius Temple and continuing the culture of worshiping Confucius. After more than 50 years, the past exchanges are reunited in Taipei. This friendship that spans generations also writes a new chapter in this year's Confucius Commemoration Ceremony.

The Confucius Temple mentioned that this year’s festival also brought together Confucian and moral education exchange partners from all over Japan, including Tatsuo Morita, vice president of the Japanese Association for the Popularization of the Analects of Confucius, Masahiro Murata, president of the Japan Moral Education Foundation, and Yoki Kodo, chairman of the Kume Chongshou Association, to witness the solemn and solemn dedication ceremony of the Confucius Temple in Taipei, demonstrating the vitality of Confucian culture across borders and continuous exchange and inheritance.

The Confucius Temple pointed out that the ceremony had been prepared for a long time, with local gentry and students from Minglun High School and Lishan High School serving as ceremony students. Chongqing Junior High School students served as musicians under the guidance of music director Sun Ruijin. Dalong Elementary School students were led by teacher Cai Fucun, who presented the beauty of traditional rituals and music with neat and elegant eight-legged dance steps. Teachers and students from Kaiping Catering School carefully prepared ritual food.

The Confucius Temple explained that teachers, students and volunteers from different generations and identities gathered at the Confucius Temple to complete the ceremony together amidst the sound of bells, drums and elegant music, so that the ancient ritual and music culture was not only preserved, but also continued to be passed on through the participation of one generation after another.
