Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic resigned and announced that he wanted to participate in the October 25 early general elections as a citizen.

In his speech to the public at the presidential building, Aleksandar Vucic said that he signed the decision to resign and that the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ana Brnabic, would act as president.

"TODAY IS THE DAY I SUBMITTED MY RESIGNATION"

Stating that the presidential election should be held by the end of December after his resignation, Vucic said, "In this way, you gave me the highest duty and responsibility that a person can undertake. Today is the day I submit my resignation." he said.

According to AA news, Vucic stated that he wanted to participate in the early general elections to be held on October 25 as an ordinary citizen and stated the following:

"Whoever wins the trust, I say this as the president, not as someone who is at the top of one of the election lists, will have to maintain peace and stability. We have to continue economic development. However, when we talk about economic development, we will first have to pay attention to innovations, artificial intelligence, robots and not to be late."

Early general elections will be held in Serbia on October 25 and Vucic will participate in the election from the lists of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).

National Assembly Speaker Ana Brnabic will act as president after Vucic's resignation.
