Unmanned aerial vehicle crashes in Romania after airspace violation from Ukraine

An unmanned aerial vehicle crashed near the village of Solca, Suceava County, in northern Romania.

Radars recorded a violation of airspace from Ukraine, which is why the on-duty aviation was alerted.

Classes in schools in four settlements were temporarily suspended due to an air raid alert.

CHISINAU, September 24 – RIA Novosti. An unmanned aerial vehicle fell near the village of Solca, Suceava county in northern Romania, without causing casualties or damage, the country's Ministry of National Defense said.

The plane fell after radars detected an airspace violation from Ukraine, prompting authorities to alert emergency aircraft and temporarily suspend classes in schools in four towns on Thursday morning.

“The air target was in the national airspace for about four minutes, after which it fell near the village of Solca, Suceava County, without causing material damage or causing casualties,” the defense department said.

Operational groups from the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrived at the scene and cordoned off the forest area. Experts identified a small-sized drone; no fire was recorded at the point of impact. In addition, at 7.21 a.m. a Romanian Air Force helicopter took off from the 95th Air Base in Bacau to survey the area.

Due to the air raid, the authorities of four localities in Suceava County postponed the start of school classes until 10.00 in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and the Department of Emergency Situations in the event of a threat of a UAV fall. Earlier, Ro-Alert warnings were sent out to residents of Suceava and Botosani counties, and two F-16 fighters took off from the 86th Borcea air base.
