Wang Yi holds talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Bayramov

On October 15, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Bayramov in Baku.

Wang Yi said that in recent years, under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Aliyev, China-UAE relations have entered a fast lane, achieved leapfrog development, entered the best period in history, and opened up broad prospects for the future. The good development of bilateral relations benefits from the high degree of mutual trust and strategic guarantees between the leaders of the two countries, which promotes the two sides to firmly support each other on issues involving each other's core interests, continuously consolidates the political foundation of bilateral relations, and creates important conditions for the two sides to deepen cooperation. China will continue to serve as Afghanistan's long-term strategic partner to support Afghanistan in accelerating its development and revitalization. China appreciates Afghanistan’s work during its tenure as the chairman of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and supports Afghanistan in playing a greater role in the CICA mechanism and international affairs.

Wang Yi said that next year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. China is willing to work with Afghanistan to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, and take the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to join hands to accelerate their respective modernizations and benefit the two peoples.

Bayramov said that Azerbaijan and China are sincere friends and reliable partners of each other. The friendship between the two countries has a long history, exchanges at all levels have become increasingly closer, and bilateral relations have reached an unprecedented high level. Afghanistan firmly adheres to the one-China principle and is willing to work with China to follow the guidance of the head of state, promote a comprehensive strategic partnership, deepen cooperation in energy, transportation, climate change, artificial intelligence, humanities and other fields, and increase efforts to jointly build the "Belt and Road" and the "Middle Corridor". Afghanistan recognizes and values ​​China's leading role among countries in the Global South, fully supports the series of global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, and is willing to strengthen mutual support and cooperation with China in international affairs.

The two sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on promoting practical cooperation between the two countries in the next stage and international and regional issues of common interest.
