Xi Jinping ends his visit to the United States and announces that he and Trump will meet again before the end of the year

Chinese President Xi Jinping concluded his state visit to the United States on Friday local time and announced that he would meet with President Trump twice before the end of this year, at the APEC Summit in Shenzhen in November and the G20 Summit in Miami in December.

During this meeting, the two leaders tried their best to maintain harmony in bilateral relations, but there were no major breakthroughs on key issues such as trade and AI security. China and the United States only stated that they would slightly extend the trade war truce until January next year, grant more preferential tariff treatment to "non-sensitive goods" worth US$30 billion, and agreed to establish a "bilateral communication channel" for AI security.

According to the White House briefing, China also agreed to import at least 10 million tons of coal from the United States in 2027 and 2028, and agreed to send two giant pandas to American zoos.

On the last day of Xi Jinping's visit to the United States (September 25), Trump accompanied him to visit the U.S. National Archives and displayed the "sacred documents" of American democracy. In the exhibition hall where the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Bill of Rights are stored, Xi Jinping carefully examined these historical documents through the glass under the introduction of the instructor.

Later, Trump told reporters waiting nearby that the two leaders discussed how historic their countries were. "We're just making a comparison," Trump said. "Our country is 250 years old, which is great, and we're proud of it. But their country is 6,000 years old." He added: "There is a slight difference between 6,000 and 250, but we are very proud of our 250."

Trump also confirmed to the media that during the visit to the archives, the two discussed the US-Iran conflict that lasted for more than six months. When asked whether he would make progress on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said: "I think we will do a good job." Trump was under pressure from members of both parties in Congress to make representations to Xi Jinping after reports that Beijing provided intelligence to Tehran to assist in attacking U.S. forces.

On the same day, the two heads of state and their spouses also enjoyed tea at the White House. This day coincides with the Mid-Autumn Festival. Xi Jinping praised the hospitality of the Trumps: "The most thoughtful courtesy and the most meticulous arrangements. The visit was very successful and we are very satisfied." The Associated Press reporter reported that when the interpreter relayed this sentence to Trump, the latter grinned: "We received two amazing distinguished guests. This visit was great, we enjoyed it, and I think we have made great progress."
