The prosecutor's office in the German city of Halle has launched an investigation against Alternative for Germany MP Sebastian Koch on suspicion of violating weapons laws.

Koch is already under investigation for suspected links to the right-wing extremist organization Artgemeinschaft, banned in Germany.

During searches of Koch, law enforcement officers found two air rifles and a gas pistol, which he kept in a locked box and immediately handed over to the police upon request.

The prosecutor's office in the German city of Halle has opened an investigation into Sebastian Koch, a deputy from the opposition party Alternative for Germany (AfD), who was elected following the recent elections to the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament, on suspicion of violating the weapons law, the MDR television and radio company reports, citing the department.

"The Halle prosecutor's office is investigating AfD state parliament member Sebastian Koch on suspicion of violating the weapons law," the statement said.

MDR reports that Koch is already under investigation for possible links to the right-wing extremist organization Artgemeinschaft, which was banned in Germany in 2023.

The prosecutor's office indicated that law enforcement officers found the weapon at the end of August during searches of Koch.
