'Family is devastated', says sister of trans woman beaten in Barretos, SP

Sister of Jade, the trans woman who was brutally beaten in Barretos (SP), housekeeper Janaina Cristina dos Santos said this Wednesday (14) that the family is devastated.

The crime took place in the early hours of Monday (12), in the Praça São Benedito region, and was caught on security cameras. Jade was stoned by two men even after falling to the ground. She was rescued unconscious and taken to Santa Casa.

"We are very devastated to see the situation she is in. She is unrecognizable. We want justice", says the sister.

To g1, Janaina said that the family found out that Jade was attacked because a friend of hers, who is homeless, came to tell her.

"The police didn't look for us at any time. I found out what had happened, because another homeless person came to my house and told me that she had been beaten and was in the hospital. But, until then, we didn't know how cruel it had been."

According to the woman, based on the information, she informed her mother and her brother went to the hospital where Jade was admitted.

"When he arrived, he caught Jade already leaving the operating room. Imagine what a shock it was to see the state she was in. She's completely disfigured."

Sought by g1, Santa Casa de Barretos reported that Jade is hospitalized in a serious but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo reported that the farmer Adilson Pereira had his arrest converted into preventive arrest. g1 tries to locate his defense.

A second person also appears in the security camera images attacking Jade, but, until the last update of this report, she had not yet been located by the police.

The case is investigated as attempted murder by the Barretos Sectional Police Station.

According to the police report, the Military Police were called by an app driver who was passing through the Rua Thirty region and witnessed the attacks. He said that the victim was stoned by two men even after falling to the ground.

The driver stated that he tried to help Jade, but was prevented by the attackers, who continued to attack her, even though she was injured and unable to react.

Security camera images show the moment when Jade was already lying on the ground, practically motionless, and received several kicks to the head and chest. She was suffocated and punched by another man.

Through the camera's audio, it is possible to hear that one of the attackers, who was shirtless, accused the victim of stealing a cell phone. Jade's sister denied the statement and said that, a few days ago, the man came to her so she could change his device at a drug store.

Janaina confirmed that her sister is a drug user and the family was fighting for her hospitalization.

"She has a family. We always do what we can. My brother has already tried to arrange hospitalization, it's been about 15 days since he had arranged it, it hasn't happened."
