The pirate taxi driver who opened fire on a plainclothes traffic police officer on Fatih Sultan Mehmet Street also shot himself.

The incident took place around 22.30 in Akevler District Fatih Sultan Mehmet Street. According to the information obtained, plainclothes traffic police officers inspecting the street stopped the car driven by Ekrem A., who was determined to be a pirate taxi driver. While action was taken against Ekrem A., it was reported that his vehicle would be banned from traffic. Thereupon, Ekrem A. shot traffic police officer Mehmet Ali Topatan with the gun he pulled from his waist. While Mehmet Ali Topatan, who was shot in the back, was seriously injured, Ekrem A. later shot himself with the same gun.

Upon notice, many police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Ekrem A. and police officer Mehmet Ali Topatan, who received first aid at the scene, were taken to Esenyurt State Hospital. While the investigation of the police teams dispatched to the scene continued, it was learned that Ekrem A. retired from police officer in 2026.
