The behavior of brown bears in Siberia differs from the behavior in the European part of Russia

The behavior of brown bears in Siberia is noticeably different from the behavior of animals in the northern regions of the European part of Russia. State hunting inspector of the Arkhangelsk region Evgeny Volkov spoke about this, TASS reports.

Volkov associated this feature with several factors at once. Among them, he named the high number of animals, a decrease in fear of humans and a lack of natural food. The combination of these circumstances, according to the expert, increases the likelihood of dangerous behavior by bears.

At the same time, cases of animals appearing near populated areas have also become more frequent in the Arkhangelsk region. Bears may be attracted by depleted food supplies, unauthorized dumps, open containers with garbage, and food left behind by people.

Since April 2026, more than 80 cases of brown bears entering populated areas have been recorded in the Arkhangelsk region. During the same period last year, there were 21 such incidents.
