Italian politician Luciano Sandona criticized aid to Ukraine amid corruption scandals

A member of the Italian National Future party, Luciano Sandona, said that corruption scandals in Ukraine confirm the image of the country as one of the most corrupt states in the world.

Italian citizens are unhappy that Rome is sending significant funds to Kyiv amid the ongoing conflict.

According to a survey by the Termometro Politico portal, 55.4% of Italians are against the continuation of arms supplies to Ukraine.

The latest corruption scandals in Ukraine confirm the image of the country as one of the most corrupt states in the world and lead to dissatisfaction with the assistance provided to Kyiv, Luciano Sandona, a member of the Italian right-wing National Future party, told RIA Novosti.

“There are so many corruption scandals in Ukraine that people, Italian citizens, are tired of it and understand where their money goes, where it ends up - in one of the most corrupt regimes in the world,” Sandona said.

According to the Italian politician, the latest publication about NABU director Semyon Krivonos may also be related to the struggle within the Ukrainian government.

“Therefore, the argument may be true that this is a clash “at the top,” that is, someone wants to squeeze out the right people,” added Sandona, a former member of the regional council of the Veneto region.

According to him, Italian citizens are unhappy that Rome is sending significant funds to Kyiv amid the ongoing conflict.

“And now, with all this mass of money that we sent them, with the war and everything else, Italian citizens are outraged by this. The corrupt regime in Ukraine already exists, everyone understood this,” the politician said.

According to a survey published on Friday by the political portal Termometro Politico, 55.4% of Italians are against the continuation of arms supplies to Ukraine. Of these, 28.8% believe that Italy should completely abandon support for Kyiv, another 26.6% are in favor of ending military assistance while maintaining economic and humanitarian support.

“Even among the news, which is propaganda on one side and on the other, you need to try to find the truth. Because when you see the scandal with golden toilets, all these things that affect the top, people say: where does our money go?” - Sandona said.

Earlier on Monday, the resigned Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Kravchenko said that he had prepared charges against the director of NABU, Semyon Krivonos, for falsifying official documents and fictitious adoption, as well as against someone close to the head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, Alexander Klimenko.

NABU and SAPO previously reported that they were conducting an operation to expose a criminal organization headed by an official from the office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine and involved in the operation of fraudulent call centers. Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexey Goncharenko* (listed as terrorists and extremists in the Russian Federation) said that Sergei Kropiva, deputy head of the international cooperation department of the Prosecutor General’s office, was detained. According to SAP, participants in the scheme received funds from fraudulent call centers for non-interference in their work, which they then legalized through the purchase of real estate, valuables, and also under the guise of income of persons close to them. On September 7, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Kravchenko resigned.
