Incorrect registration of early votes in several municipalities

It was last week that the error was discovered in Nynäshamn municipality. Some early votes had been registered with the same electoral roll number as that of the previous voter. Some voters may thus have been registered twice while others have not been registered at all.

The incorrect registration took place between 26 August and 3 September. The electoral authority has subsequently investigated which municipalities may have been affected by the error.

On Wednesday, a list of 114 municipalities that are not covered will be presented. The work continues to investigate whether any of the remaining 176 municipalities may be affected.

"As soon as we can, we will announce whether there are voting locations and times where voters may still be affected by misregistrations in early voting," writes the Swedish Electoral Authority on the website val.se.

Anyone whose vote is at risk of being invalidated can vote again on election day. However, you cannot vote early again.

From the beginning, the Electoral Authority estimated that around 4,000 votes were invalid, but this was reduced to just under 500. There is no indication that deliberate sabotage is behind the incident.
