UEFA disciplinary sanctions against Fenerbahçe and Lyon: Guendouzi banned for 4 matches, Greenwood banned for 1 match

The punishment of Matteo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood, who were referred to the disciplinary committee after the incidents in the UEFA Champions League play-off round rematch that Fenerbahçe played away against Lyon, has been announced.

According to UEFA's statement, the disciplinary process initiated against the yellow-dark blue club, Guendouzi and Greenwood due to the events following the 2-1 match against the French team Olimpik Lyon has been completed.

Fenerbahçe was fined a total of 95 thousand euros, including 30 thousand euros for burning and throwing fireworks, 15 thousand euros for fan incidents and 50 thousand euros for violating the team's general and basic rules of conduct.

In the statement, Fenerbahçe player Matteo Guendouzi was fined 50 thousand euros and banned from a total of 4 UEFA club competitions in which he could play for "insulting other people at the match, provoking the audience and violating the basic rules of conduct", and it was stated that the ban imposed for two of these matches was subject to a 1-year postponement period.

In the statement, it was announced that Fenerbahçe player Mason Greenwood would be fined 30 thousand euros and banned from 1 UEFA club competition in which he could play, on the grounds that he "violated the rules of ethics", and it was noted that the ban in question was subject to a 1-year postponement period.

Greenwood will be able to play from Fenerbahçe's first match in the Champions League this season.

OBJECTION FROM FENERBAHÇE

Fenerbahçe, on the other hand, announced that it will appeal the penalties given by UEFA to Matteo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood.

The statement made by the club was as follows:

"As a result of the disciplinary investigation carried out by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Board regarding the events in the UEFA Champions League match we played with the Lyon team, we have been notified of the decisions taken against our Club and our players Matteo Guendouzi and Mason Greenwood.

As a result of the disciplinary hearing process carried out by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Board; UEFA Disciplinary Instruction has given a 4-match penalty, 2 of which are final and 2 of which are suspended for 1 year, to our football player Matteo Guendouzi, who was referred for violating the rules of basic sportsmanship and proper conduct within the scope of Article 11(2)(b), insulting the players or other people in the competition within the scope of Article 15(1)(a)(iv), and provoking the spectators within the scope of Article 15(1)(a)(vi).

Our football player Mason Greenwood, who was referred to the disciplinary committee for violating the rules of basic sportsmanship and proper conduct within the scope of Article 11 (2) (b) of the UEFA Disciplinary Instruction, received a 1-match ban and the penalty in question was suspended for 1 year.

"Our club evaluates the decisions made by UEFA and the reasons for the decisions through our legal units, and will carry out the necessary arbitration application and objection processes to the UEFA Arbitration Board against the penalties imposed."

LYON ALSO RECEIVED A PENALTY

UEFA fined Olympic Lyon a total of 108 thousand 500 euros, including 48 thousand euros for throwing objects, 5 thousand 500 euros for burning fireworks, 5 thousand euros for fan incidents and 50 thousand euros for violating the general and basic rules of conduct.
