Fire extinguished at recycling plant in Iserlohn – two firefighters injured

After several bales of pressed plastic burned on the premises of a recycling company in Iserlohn, the fire department extinguished the flames. As a spokesman for the Iserlohn police announced, the emergency services finished extinguishing the fire at around 3:30 a.m. A fire watch was still on site, it was said.

The fire department was called to the fire late Wednesday afternoon. At times the fire threatened to spread to an administration building and neighboring companies, but the fire department prevented this. Two firefighters were slightly injured during the large-scale operation, and a delivery driver also suffered smoke inhalation.

All clear for the population

According to the police spokesman, the cause of the fire remains unclear. Fire investigators were on site in the morning, he said. The extent of the damage was not initially known.

The fire department had used warning apps to warn the population about unpleasant smells and smoke. “Health impairments cannot be ruled out,” the district control center said. The all-clear has now been given: affected residents no longer have to close windows and doors and no longer have to switch off ventilation and air conditioning.
