German citizen Xuejun C. arrested on suspicion of espionage

In the only known photo of Xuejun C., only his legs are visible; his head and upper body are hidden under a jacket thrown over him. Two officers walk left and right of him. Bulletproof vests, masks, gun holsters. C., 55 years old, German citizen, is on the way to the judge. He is said to be a spy - commissioned by China.

His wife Hua S. and he were arrested in Munich in mid-May on charges of acting as agents. The Federal Prosecutor General accuses them that a Chinese secret service contacted the German couple for "scientific information about high technology that could be used for military purposes." The couple made contacts with German scientists who research aerospace technology, computer science and artificial intelligence. According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, eight higher education institutions were affected. Some of these scientists then gave lectures in China, not knowing that the audience was not civilian experts, but rather representatives of state-owned defense companies.
