Victim of a cowardly attack while crossing the street and returning home in Osasco, Greater SP, the elderly José Ricardo dos Santos, aged 79, was discharged from hospital last Saturday (31).
He was the target of a flying attack and a stomp on the head by Denis Young Kim, 43, who is being sought by the Civil Police.
The elderly man spoke to Bom Dia SP, from TV Globo, this Tuesday (3) and showed the wounds on his head and said that he has a rib fracture that prevents him from breathing and talking properly.
José Ricardo has vision problems and can barely see people, due to a worsening cataract. He states that he only leaves houses with crutches, because it is the only way he can walk alone.
"I have a wound on my head, because he pushed me to the ground. The only thing that hurt was my rib. I had fallen and hurt my foot and broke my rib. It was fine. I wasn't feeling any pain. Then after that push he gave me, it hurt me more. I'm sitting here talking, but I can't even sigh or cough. It hurts me a lot", he stated.
The elderly man who was attacked stated that he does not remember the reason for the attack and that he woke up in the hospital.
“I woke up with the nurse taking care of me, but I don’t remember anything else,” he declared.
"I don't know if I hit his car. I don't remember. It's mean. Bad guy. With the crutch I wasn't going to 'trick' his car. I only carry them both because I'm here in front of you, but I only see your figures. I was coming here from the little chapel. Everyone considers me and has nothing to say about me", he said.
Asked about the reason for the attack on driver Denis Yong Min, 43, José Ricardo stated that he does not remember doing anything against the attacker.
"It was mean. You can't do that to me on the street. I want him to explain what I did to him. If you find him, give him a hard press, because he can't do that to anyone on the street. I don't owe anyone"
"If I could see, I could say if he hit me. But I don't see anything. I don't remember anything. I want if I find him, to ask why he did this to me. I didn't do anything to him. I'm illiterate, but I'm not ignorant. Thank God", he declared
Temporary prison
The São Paulo Civil Police has already asked the São Paulo Court to order the temporary arrest of the attacker Denis Yong Kim, aged 43, accused of assaulting a 79-year-old man who was walking with the aid of crutches in Osasco, in Greater São Paulo. He is being sought.
The video circulating on social media shows the moment when Denis stops the car in the middle of a street, gets out of the vehicle and attacks the elderly man on Rua Octalles Marcondes Ferreira, in the Helena Maria neighborhood.
In the images, the man kicks the victim in the back, who falls to the asphalt. He then steps hard on the elderly man's head, returns to the car and drives away (see below).
Before the attack, it is possible to see the elderly man lean one of his crutches against the driver's vehicle. The case happened on Friday afternoon (30).
The main suspect identified by the Civil Police is Denis Young Kim, who was already sentenced to 14 years in prison for the murder of a cart driver with an arrow in 2016, in the center of São Paulo.
According to the police report, the victim, José Ricardo dos Santos, was walking with the aid of crutches when he was attacked. According to the BO, images from security cameras show the driver disembarking from a Volkswagen Polo and kicking the elderly man in the back.
After José Ricardo fell to the ground, the man stepped hard on his head. The victim apparently lost consciousness after the attack.
The case was registered as attempted murder for futile reasons. The Civil Police are investigating the circumstances of the attack.
After identifying the vehicle used in the incident, the police arrived at the name of Denis Young Kim. The team went to the suspect's registered address, but did not find him. Neighbors told investigators that he had entered the house, collected some belongings and left the property.
José Ricardo was rescued and initially taken to the Osmar Mesquita Emergency Room. Afterwards, he was transferred to UPA Vila Menck, where he was already discharged from hospital.
TV Globo contacted Osasco City Hall to obtain more information about the victim's health status, but did not receive a response until the last update of this report.
In a statement, the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) reported that the Civil Police are investigating the attack. The steps include confirming the identification of the perpetrator and carrying out medical-legal examinations on the victim to gather elements for the investigation and possible criminal liability.
Cart driver killed by arrow
In 2021, Denis Young Kim was sentenced to 14 years in prison for the murder of Aldemir Ribeiro Pontes. The crime occurred in 2016 on Rua Mamoré, in the Bom Retiro neighborhood, central region of São Paulo.
On that occasion, Denis used a crossbow, also known as a crossbow, to fire an arrow at Aldemir's neck. The projectile hit the carotid artery and caused the death of the worker, who worked as a collector of recyclable materials and used a cart.
According to the investigation, the murder happened after an argument between the two. Denis claimed that he just wanted to scare the victim, who had scratched his car with the cart and refused to pay for the repairs.
The crime was recorded by security cameras. A witness also reported to the police that he saw the driver arguing with Aldemir and pointing the gun in his direction before hearing the shot.
Denis was identified and arrested the day after the murder. At the time, the police seized the crossbow used in the crime, as well as a knife and drugs. The merchant had also tampered with the car's license plate with tape, according to the investigation.
