Civil service: the eight unions call for a general strike on September 29

At the historic headquarters of the CGT, they are all there. In the conference room of the Montreuil central office, the eight public service unions stand together this Thursday, September 24. The CGT, but also Force Ouvrière, the CFDT, the Unsa, FSU, Solidaires, the CFE-CGC and the FA-FP are calling with one voice for the mobilization of this Tuesday, September 29. “It will be a dark day, we are going to show them what France is like without a public service,” promises Natacha Pommet, general secretary of the CGT federation of public services. “The minister gave us 54 billion reasons to strike,” continues Caroline Chevé, her counterpart from the FSU, a union mainly present in National Education.

For several days, unions have been mobilizing their activists and public sector agents. The freezing of the index point for civil servants (which serves as a basis for calculating salaries) announced by Sébastien Lecornu has finally heated up the eight representative organizations. The measure, which is expected to save the government 2 billion euros, has reinforced calls for protests and strikes.
